Serving under an eccentric dictator, no matter how good it gets at times, must be the most dangerous job in the world. Imagine getting executed for dozing!
North Korea’s defence minister Hyon Yong-chol was publicly executed by firing squad for apparently showing disrespect to the supreme leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Hyon is said to have dozed off at a formal military event attended by Kim Jong-un, whilst in the past he has also talked back to the President on several occasions.
According to the BBC, South Korean intelligence briefed their parliamentarians on the issue. He was executed on April 30 using anti-aircraft fire in an event witnessed by hundreds of people.
He was accused of treason.
Another senior military official is also rumoured to have been killed.
It’s amazing how these dictators can be so insecure when they hold most of the power. Or maybe killing people off every once in a while is what keeps them in power for so long.
