PHOTOS From The Premiere of Announcement + My Take On The Movie!

Director of the movie-Evelyn Robinson and actor-Adjetey Anang

It was a night full of excitement and a bit of laughter. I can still envisage how each and everyone in the auditorium stayed glued to their seats and never wanted to miss any scene from the movie which was premiered last night at the National Theatre.

Wonderful! Amazing! Exciting! Stunning! These are but few of the words the audience used to describe the movie. If I’m giving the opportunity to describe it in one word, then I guess I would have to talk to the Queen of England for her to endow me with the precise English word to employ.

“I thought I was coming to the theatre to just watch a movie and entertain myself, not knowing I was coming to watch an intelligent film like this. This is like Nikita.” Those were the exact words of a gentleman who sat close to me in the auditorium.

The movie under discussion is “Announcement”, which features David Dontoh, Amandah Jissih, Adjetey Anang, Doris Sackitey, Fred Amugi, Kafui Danku, and others. It was directed by Evelyn Robinson.

The Plot

In the movie, Harriet, the eleven year old daughter of Rev. Martin Sam was kidnapped by Samuel Mama, a young man who managed to break out of prison seven years into his life sentence.

Samuel Mama demands that Rev. Sam makes a public announcement that he-Rev Sam committed the crime for which he Samuel Mama was imprisoned if he wants his daughter alive. How will the reverend handle this? How will the church deal with the shocking news?

One question that lingers on the mind of all interested parties is; Did Rev. Sam really commit the crime? It surely looks like there is more to this than we know.

Directing

I wouldn’t know how to describe this, but the directing was so on point. This is actually the first ever movie directed by Evelyn Robinson. If a person can do this for the first time, I believe given some few years to come, she would be among the best in Africa (If only she doesn’t get swayed by complacency).

Photography

Projecting it onto a very big surface, I thought the pixels would widen and decrease the quality of the photographs. It proved otherwise. I just imagined how it would be like watching it on an LED TV or Plasma.

Acting

With the above mentioned cast, nobody would expect the acting to be poor. The actors really understood what they were doing, portraying professionalism and experience.

What I loved was the fact that each of the actors displayed some sense of humour which made the whole movie fun to watch.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this movie wins an award this year. However, I would prefer to rate the director herself when I get to watch different movies that she will direct.

Everybody puts more than required effort in their debut works. Subsequent ones are relaxed upon somehow. If this is proven wrong by the director, then I would know she is among the best.

It seems the female directors are riding higher in Ghana!
