There is a new rap superstar in town- Sarkodie defeated Okyeame Kwame to be crowned ‘Artiste of the Year’ at last night’s Ghana Music Awards.
Last year’s winner of the ‘Artiste of the Year,’ ‘Hip-Hop Song of the Year,’ ‘Hip-Hop/Hiplife Artist of the Year,’ and ‘Video of the Year’ categories, Okyeame Kwame had to settle for announcing the name of the winner: “The voice of the people is the voice of God,” he declared, before announcing that Sarkodie was the new owner of his previous title- ‘Artiste of the Year.’
The new ‘Artiste of the Year’ winner was also the biggest winner of the night, taking home further trophies for ‘Hiplife/Hip-Hop Artiste of the Year,’ ‘Best Rapper of the Year,’ ‘Album of the Year,’ and also ‘Discovery of the Year.’ Yet, it was his popular track ‘Baby’ featuring Muggies of R2Bees that ensured that he was crowned ‘Artiste of the Year,’ in recognition of the song’s success.
Performances of the night came from Abrantie Amakye Dede, who opened the show with a great performance. Shortly thereafter, Okyeame Kwame came on stage and sent the crowd wild with his performance. Some of the other nominees were also on the performing rota for the night.
Becca and Obrafuor won awards, but they seemed to be unpopular with the audience due to a lack of high-energy noise when they were announced as winners.

DATS GUD!
You truly deserve it Sarkodie.
Sarkodie, i dont dispute the fact that you are good rapper, and i also like you very much because you were my school mate back then, but their was onething you did on stage on the night of the award that i never like. you may not like it but i will say it, even if it hurts.
when you were crowned the ARTIST OF THE YEAR and appeared on stage for the award, due to the fact that the were lots of people on stage with you, your shades accidentaly fell, and it was very clear that you wanted to pick it up, but did not get the chance. oh boy never repeat that again. u are a star and can now purchase many sunglassess as you wish. remember darkness and shades doesn’t work. think about all that i said, but get it in good face and dont fell bad. Everyone loves you but GOD loves you the most.
@VISTA TEE BABY, well said girl.but you know what ,you are not the only person that saw something.i also did not like the way and manner SOME of the stars held the awards in their hands.it is as if they do not appreciate it.NO HATE I LOVE BECCA SO MUCH BUT HOW SHE HELD THE AWARDS WAS SOMETHING. i thought it was a reward for a good work done so i was expecting her(not her slone) to hold it well to show that she like it.but nope it was the other way round.
